Complex Support Needs

Half the vulnerable adults we support have complex or challenging needs, ranging from people with autism to dual diagnosis. Having teamed up with the individual to support them on a personal level, we work closely with clinical and multi-disciplinary teams with the specific aim of preventing challenge. We achieve this by encouraging the person to communicate, by identifying triggers for challenge and by sticking with people for the long-haul, no matter what.

Some of the specific approaches we use also contribute to our success in this area. For example, our use of multimedia profiling ensures service user involvement at the highest level. Meanwhile, our staff’s consistent approach and training in conflict resolution mean frustration is kept to a minimum. And our focus on ensuring individuals have access to relaxation sessions at the Gate means they learn techniques to keep calm.
