Think Tank

Think Tank is a progressive, open forum in which participants can share ideas and thoughts, discuss issues and problems, seek solutions and fill in the gaps in everyday knowledge.

Examples include, what to do if a bus breaks down, keeping safe, how to assert your rights if you have been treated as different (e.g. refused service in a cafe because you have a disability).

Where appropriate, staff members get involved with Think Tank members in the wider community. For instance, one member, who does not use speech to communicate, was recently barred from a pub for “silent staring” – an incident which led to the police being unnecessarily called out.

On hearing the story, Yarrow was able to mediate with the pub’s owners (who did not condone their employee’s actions) and pave the way for a non-discriminatory future. The issue was raised and discussed during a Think Tank session at The Gate.
