Fundraising

Charitable funds are extremely important to Yarrow, enabling us to undertake projects that we would not otherwise be able to fund. For instance, a new residential home came with a very large garden. Without an injection of charitable money, Yarrow would only have been able to provide the most basic of garden furniture. Instead, thanks to the generosity of a charitable trust, we were able to build a large Summer House, complete with not only a growing area but also a potter's wheel and seating area. Our residents are very proud of their Summer House. A further £20,000 from charitable trusts enabled the purchase of sensory equipment and furniture.

A project to refurbish and re-equip The Gate,Yarrow's Learning and Development Centre for people with learning disabilities, is now complete, thanks to £50,000 of support from charitable trusts. This has enabled us to fit an air exchange system for the comfort of all our service users and to purchase amongst other things, specialist computers and software, musical equipment and a video camera. Many of these items are now regularly in use in rehearsals for the Moment by Moment theatre group - a successful theatre company which is currently part of Yarrow, set up by staff and service users two years ago.

More recently we have received £127k from a charitable trust to fund a project called "Passport to Communication ". This is a two and a half year project employing the skills of a speech and language therapy assistant and a psychology assistant. Their role is to work intensively on developing communication stratagies to maximise the potential of each and every membert of our least able group of service users.

Our service users are part of the local community and would love to hear from companies or individuals interested in making a donation towards our work or sponsoring our activities. There are many opportunities for sponsorship - a small selection is shown below:

• The printing and designing of the Moment by Moment Theatre Company's next programme
• Funding therapeutic sessions (reflexology, aromatherapy) for individuals with profound disabilities and complex needs
• On-going materials needed by the Gate, such as aromatherapy oils, craft materials, painting materials
• Making or supplying costumes for the theatre group's next production
• Sponsoring a holiday for an individual with very limited funds
• Funding / building a sensory garden
