CY's first house opens
CY is a ground-breaking partnership between Yarrow and London Cyrenians. Between us we will deliver a highly individualised and specialised supported living service for people with a forensic history many of whom have been in long-term placements out of London. Each person will have a tenancy of their own flat, be closer to their families and start new lives in the community. A team will support each individual and be funded through Individual Service Funds.
The first tenants are now settling into their own flats in CY’s first house in West London. A second house will open later in Ealing.
The project is the result of a collaborative venture by North West London joint commissioners for learning disability.

This is a three-year initiative by HACT (Housing Associations Charitable Trust), funded by the Department of Health and the Department of Communities and Local Government. Its aim is to give people with learning disabilities greater understanding of Individual Budgets and how they might be used in a collaborative way in the new world of Self Directed support.
In partnership with Equal People, Yarrow has created a user-led cooperative in Kensington and Chelsea through which Individual Budgets holders can meet like minded people, buy support jointly and so get more for their money.
“Up2Us” will assist people to enjoy living in London and to access the many world-class events, activities, museums, clubs, etc that it has to offer. It will provide the opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of others and to widen friendship and support circles. “Up2Us” will facilitate and encourage joint purchasing of support services so that users understand that jointly they have greater purchasing power and therefore increased opportunities, than as individuals. Three keen Chelsea football supporters attending a match would learn that by clubbing together to buy 4 hours of joint support, they will have saved 8 hours’ support for a trip to Brighton.
If you live in Kensington and Chelsea and would like to join “Up2Us”, please email email@example.com or ring Tim Hughes on 020 8735 4600.
