Sol's story

Although Sol was born in London, most of his family is from Grenada, where they still live. Sol, who is deaf and blind, worked with Yarrow staff to plan a visit to the island. It was a huge success. In particular, Sol enjoyed catching up with his mother and getting to know his aunt and cousins, as well as using his other senses to experience Grenada’s culture.

Sol’s Caribbean roots have increasingly featured in his home life and, for his 40th birthday party, he had a Caribbean party. Sol also keeps contact with the Grenadian religious community in London and with his brother.

Joanne's story

Joanne is enjoying making eye contact and is able to reach out for, and focus on, objects she is offered. In the past, Joanne was not able to make eye contact and had a very low concentration span.  Yarrow staff in the small care home in which she lived, begun to offer her one sensory object at a time for her to focus on for a few seconds and then gradually increased the number of objects to six. The concentration time of each sensory object she touches is getting longer all the time. The length of her sessions is also increasing.
